A Philippines advertising agency has apologised after they used footage of other countries in a promotional tourism video.
The ‘Love the Philippines’ campaign ad used stock footage of sand dunes in the United Arab Emirates, rice terraces in Indonesia and an airplane landing in Switzerland.
The use of foreign footage in the now-deleted video was first revealed after an analysis by the French news agency AFP and Philippine blogger Sass Rogando Sasot.
In a statement, the Department of Tourism (DOT) said they sought confirmation from the ad agency, DDB Philippines, on the originality and ownership of all materials used.
"ALL these occasions, DDB repeatedly assured the DOT that the originality and ownership of all materials are in order,” said Philippine's tourism secretary, Christina Garcia Frasco.
It was made as a part of a $900,000 (approx. BD339,300) "Love the Philippines" campaign, which was launched in late June.
DDB Philippines apologised for the error in its own statement saying that while the use of stock footage in mood videos is an industry standard, it was highly inappropriate in this instance.
