A BAHRAINI media personality spearheading a voluntary savings scheme has been ordered to pay thousands of dinars to a citizen, after she was found guilty of breaching the contract.
The High Civil Court said it had enough evidence against the defendant and ordered her to pay BD8,360 to the plaintiff.
According to court documents, the defendant had been spearheading a voluntary savings scheme involving a group of individuals since 2018, with each of them contributing BD250 a month.
“My client participated in the scheme run by the defendant and it was agreed that the plaintiff would pay her BD250 a month for a few years, after which BD8,500 would be reimbursed,” said the plaintiff’s lawyer Zainab Sabt.
“The plaintiff has been paying regularly since 2018 and the defendant has acknowledged that she is entitled to the BD8,500 gross payment.
“However, the defendant didn’t hand over the fund on the agreed date and so we filed a lawsuit.”
Meanwhile, court documents established that witness statements were included as evidence in addition to WhatsApp conversations between the defendant and plaintiff regarding the scheme.
The Bahraini plaintiff also testified in court that the defendant promised to refund the sums to her, however, she only returned BD750.
The court ordered the defendant to pay BD7,960 to the plaintiff for the voluntary savings scheme in addition to BD400 as compensation.
