THE first Bahraini to graduate from Britain’s prestigious Sandhurst academy has won royal praise.
His Majesty King Hamad yesterday sent a cable of congratulations to Royal Family Council deputy chairman Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, who joined the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) in 1957 and was the first Bahraini to graduate from it.
Shaikh Mohammed was honoured with the Sandhurst’s sword and a medal at its graduation ceremony, marking the 70th anniversary of the long-standing relations between Bahrain and the RMAS, as reported by the GDN yesterday.
The King also congratulated Shaikh Mohammed on the graduation of his grandson, Shaikh Mohammed bin Fawaz Al Khalifa, from the academy as part of a cohort that included graduates from Bahrain.

His Majesty praised the recognition bestowed upon Shaikh Mohammed in appreciation of his distinguished career, competence and expertise.
He noted that the honour also reflects the respect and esteem accorded to the kingdom and its dedicated citizens, as well as its prominent and distinguished presence on the global stage.
His Majesty expressed appreciation for the valuable services Shaikh Mohammed continues to render to the nation through the responsibilities he undertakes, wishing him continued success.
On the occasion, His Majesty commended the deep and long-standing strategic partnership between Bahrain and the United Kingdom across various domains.
The King also highlighted the growing co-operation between Bahrain and the RMAS in various military and training fields. He praised the academy’s long-standing heritage, distinguished reputation and role in preparing, qualifying and training military personnel and leaders, as well as its programmes and curricula covering various military disciplines.
