Supreme Council for Youth and Sport first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority (GSA) chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa yesterday attended the opening ceremony of the 2023 World Wrestling Championships in Belgrade, Serbia.
Shaikh Khalid expressed his pleasure to attend the opening ceremony. He praised the outstanding success of the ceremony and the presence of a large number of sports leaders and representatives of wrestling associations from various countries.
Shaikh Khalid affirmed the distinguished status enjoyed by Serbia in the sports fields, which entitles it to host various international championships, wishing it a successful organisation of the World Wrestling Championships.
Present on the occasion were GSA deputy chairman Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Shaikh Isa bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Serbian Sports Minister Zoran Gajic, Serbian National Olympic Committee (NOC) president Bozidar Maljkovic, GSA chief executive Dr Abdulrahman Askar and BOC secretary general Faris Al Kooheji.
Earlier, the GSA and the BOC signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Serbian Sports Ministry and the NOC.
On the occasion, Shaikh Khalid expressed delight over the signing of the MoU, noting that the agreement will pave the way for exchanging expertise and experiences, organising training camps, enhancing prospects for co-operation in various sports, and benefiting from Serbia’s capabilities in the technical, administrative and medical fields.
He affirmed that the MoU is in line with the keenness of the GSA and BOC to open up co-operation with various countries in the sports field, including Serbia, which boasts advanced sporting capabilities for training players, refining talent and training coaches, in addition to high-quality infrastructure and playgrounds for training camps, expressing hope that the agreement will contribute to achieving the common interests of both countries.
