FOOTBALL – Nasser Vocational Training Centre, Bahrain Bayan School, and Hamad Town Secondary School for Boys advanced to the last 8-round of the Nasser Bin Hamad Football Tournament for Secondary Schools after defeating last year’s runner-up Al Taawon Secondary School for Boys, Bahrain School, and Indian School, respectively.
Being held under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad’s representative for humanitarian works and youth Affairs Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and organised by the Education Ministry, the tournament is backed by platinum sponsor National Bank of Bahrain (NBB).
Nasser Vocational Training Centre beat Al Taawon School 3-2 in the final match in Group 2, held at A’ali Club. They lead the group with nine points, while Al Taawon were eliminated after finishing in third place with three points.
At Bahrain School, Bayan School continued to impress in the tournament, pulling off a major upset winning 5-2 against Bahrain School. The winners are now in second place with six points, while Bahrain School remain in fourth place without any points.
In a postponed match from the second round of Group 1, Hamad Town School secured their qualification to the second round with a 7-0 rout of Indian School. Ziyad Saleh (4 goals) and Hamad Talal (3) were the scorers.
The winners have six points, qualifying along with Shaikh Abdulaziz bin Mohammed School. Their upcoming match on Wednesday will determine the group leader.
