PARALYMPICS – Bahrain Paralympic Committee president Shaikh Mohamed bin Duaij Al Khalifa received the Asian Order award from the Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) during the APC Conference at the Asian Awards 2023 held in Riyadh.
The award is given to individuals supporting the Paralympic movement in the Asian region and promoting the participation of Para athletes. It is a recognition of those who make outstanding efforts to raise awareness about issues faced by those with Impairments and encourage Para sports in the Asian region.
The award acknowledges Shaikh Mohamed’s and the Bahrain Paralympic Committee’s efforts in hosting various international sporting events in Bahrain, including the Bahrain 2021 Asian Youth Para Games, the third West Asian Para Games-Bahrain 2022, Bahrain First International Para Badminton Tournament 2022, Bahrain 2022 World Boccia Cup besides the IPC General Assembly and Conference of the International Paralympic Committee that was held last September.
These events have significantly contributed to the development of the Paralympic movement in Asia, showcasing the tangible achievements of the Bahrain Paralympic Committee in the sports sector. Bahrain has established itself as a global sports hub through its successful hosting of major sporting events.
Shaikh Mohamed thanked the wise leadership of the kingdom for their continuous support for Para sports. He also extended his appreciation to the Supreme Council for Youth and Sport and the General Sports Authority for their ongoing efforts in supporting Para sports.
Shaikh Mohamed said that this accomplishment is an opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of supporting Para sports in Bahraini society. He said he aimed to encourage more youth to participate in sports, irrespective of their physical abilities.
Shaikh Mohamed also reaffirmed the Bahrain Paralympic Committee’s commitment to promoting Paralympic sports and supporting Para athletes. He pledged to continue working diligently to develop sports infrastructure, provide suitable opportunities for training and facilitate participation in national and international sports competitions.
