HORSERACING – Ocean Star, of Al Afoo Racing, clinched the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) Cup after winning the eighth race in the seventh event of the season at the Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in Sakhir yesterday.
The winner, trained by Mohammed Hasan and ridden by Soufiane Saadi, finished ahead of second-placed Buffer Zone, of Victorious, and third-placed Amaan, owned by Mohamed Jasim Jaafar, in the 1,200 metres race for imported horses.
Earlier, Lathaa, owned by Shaikh Hamad bin Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa, won the 1,400m seventh race, for imported horses, charging ahead of Bleak, owned by Abdulla Fawzi Nass, and Graciella, owned by Shaikh Hamad bin Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa, who finished second and third respectively.
The sixth race of the day was won by Vanguard Star, of Al Afoo Racing, while Endifaa, owned by Salman Al Alawi, finished on top in the fifth race to claim the General Sports Authority (GSA) Cup.
Rollajam, of Victorious, triumphed in the 1,800m fourth race, for imported horses, to bag the GSA Cup.
Mediterranean Moon, of M and E Racing, clinched the GSA Cup after winning the third race, for local-bred horses while Social Distancing, of Al Adiyat Racing, emerged victorious in the second race and bagged the GSA Cup.
Present on the occasion were REHC chairman Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Supreme Council for Environment vice president and REHC deputy chairman Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa, General Sports Authority deputy chairman Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa and Cabinet Affairs Ministry Under-Secretary and Bahrain Olympic Committee vice president Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa.
