Finance and National Economy Minister Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa has issued an edict stipulating that a government employee will retire at the age of 60 by a decision from the competent authority unless he or she explicitly requests to continue working until the age of 65. The competent authority can approve the employee’s request according to the work need and after an approval by the Civil Service Bureau (CSB).
The additional service period will be calculated in the retirement period without exceeding 40 years, according to Law 13 of 1975 on regulating retirees’ pensions and allowances, and on condition of paying the contributions stipulated in the aforementioned law.
The minister has also issued an edict allowing every government employee whose service ended for any reason and who was not entitled to a retirement pension in accordance with any of the laws or regulations to voluntarily continue in the retirement system providing he/she has an actual service period of no less than five years.
