HORSERACING – PIZ Nair lifted the Late Mr Abdulla Ahmed Nass Cup last night in the richest event of the 26th meeting in this 2025-26 season at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in Sakhir.
Piz Nair triumphed in the 10-race card’s seventh installment, which was sponsored by Nass Corporation and AA Nass and Sons and held over 1,400 metres with BD10,000 in total prize money.
The five-year-old gelding was competing for owners Al Adiyat Racing and trainers Daniel and Claire Kubler, with Abdulla Faisal in the saddle. Piz Nair claimed a tight victory ahead of Cracking Gold, also competing for Adiyat and the Kublers but with Ebrahim Nader as the jockey.
Bussento took third place for Al Mohamediya Racing, Fawzi Nass, and Hasan Al Saffar, while Gulmarg finished fourth for Mohamediya, Mohamed Hasan, and Hussain Asghar.
Meanwhile, also yesterday at REHC, Shareefa and Tear and Daz both emerged victorious in the second legs of the Future Stars races.
Shareefa won the latest edition of the Future Stars Sprint in last night’s third race while Tear and Daz triumphed in the Future Stars Champions event in race four.
Shareefa triumphed for Mohamediya, Nass, and Asghar after 1,200m to take the lion’s share of the BD4,000 prize. The three-year-old filly won by nearly four lengths ahead of Mirage, competing for Shaikh Isa bin Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa, Robert McDowall, and Alberto Sanna. Queens Counsel came third for Adiyat and the Kublers with Qasim Jameel in the saddle, while Madame Olympe took fourth place for Victorious Forever, Paul Smith, and Alejandro Brun.
Tear and Dev took the fourth race of the night to claim the Future Stars Champions Leg Two, contested over 1,600m with BD4,000 in winnings.
The three-year-old filly won for Mohammed Khalid Abdulrahim, Haider Ebrahim, and Benoit De La Sayette, while Diyar was the runner-up for Mohamediya, Ali Abdulmajeed, and Al Saffar. Hunters Call came third for the Adiyat-Kublers-Nader triumvirate, while Yasalam finished fourth for Abdulrahim, Ebrahim, and Abdulrahim Jasim.
Elsewhere last night, California won the REHC Cup in race five, covering 1,600m and offering BD3,000 in prize money.
The five-year-old gelding took first place for Abdulla Sami Nass, Fawzi Nass, and Stephane Ladjadj, with Black Shadow in second for M and E Racing, Smith, and Edinson Rodriguez. Dick Dastardly was third for M and E and Smith, with Lee Newman as the jockey, while Social Distancing came fourth for Shaikha Deena bint Rashed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Yousif Alboainain, and Asghar.
In yesterday’s fourth race, Rabdan 1946 lifted the Al Wasmiya Cup. The four-year-old colt triumphed after 1,200m for owners Al Roudha, trainer Adel Abdulla, and Nader to claim the biggest portion of the BD1,500 prize.
Obeyan 1958 was second for Victorious Forever, Yousif Taher, and Jasim; Krushan M1173 came third for Mohamediya, Abbas Al Mawali, and Husain Makki; and Mlolshan 1912 finished fourth for Al Khaldiya, Alboainain, and Faisal.
The Applied Science University Cup in the sixth race of the day was claimed by Thosewerethedays by Victorious Forever and Smith, with Newman in the saddle. Al Shababi was second after 2,400m for the Adiyat-Kublers-Nader connections; Whathappensinvegas came third for Vegas Racing, Ali Jan, and Sanna; and Mossaafer was fourth for Salah Racing, Abdulla, and Jasim. The four each came away with a part of the BD3,000 purse.
