Members of a leading British curriculum school community have been stunned by the tragic death of a young pupil in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Elliott Walsh, a Year 5 student at St Christopher’s School’s Saar campus, died at his home.
Classmates, aged nine and 10, and their parents, are said to be devastated and in tears following the tragedy.
The school sent out a notice mourning Elliott’s death. “The loss of such a young life is profoundly felt by our entire school community,” school principal Dr Simon Watson said in an email to parents.
“Words do not encapsulate the depth of sadness in this moment of loss and we are working closely with the family to offer our utmost support.
“On behalf of the entire St Christopher’s community, I offer our sincerest condolences to the family for the devastating loss of their beloved son.”
The school has also made its school counsellors John Froud-Davis and Sanam Pourhabib available to provide support to heartbroken families and teachers.
The cause of his death has not been stated but there are no suspicious circumstances.
The British Embassy in Manama confirmed that it was providing consular assistance to the family during these difficult times.
Dean of St Christopher’s Cathedral, the Very Rev’d Dr Richard Fermer, is currently on church business in Cyprus and returning to Bahrain this weekend.
“I have offered any help that I can give to the school and parents, and the school has a team of excellent counsellors,” he said.
“It is devastatingly sad and shocking news. The Walsh family are very much in our prayers.”
