Richard Brock, a metal detectorist in Shropshire, has discovered England's largest gold nugget near the village of Munch Wenlock, worth £30,000 (BHD14,400).
The discovery was made despite Brock's usage of a faulty metal detector.
The metal cluster has been named Hiro's nugget and is believed to be the biggest find on English soil.
Brock said the treasure-hunting expedition he carried alongside other detectorists was set to last all day, though his findings were made just minutes into the search.
The nugget was found on a site near the village of Much Wenlock believed to have been an old track with railway lines running through, containing stone possibly distributed from Wales – an area known to be rich in gold.
The nugget will be sold by auctioneers Mullock Jones in a timed auction that runs until April 1.
