The kingdom’s tourism strategy and achievements were highlighted during a recent Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) board of directors meeting.
The session was presided by Tourism Minister Fatima Al Sairafi, in the presence of BTEA chief executive Sarah Buhijji, alongside managers and staff from the authority, Bahrain Chamber, Gulf Air, Mumtalakat, Association of Bahrain Travel and Tour Agents, and other representatives from the sector.
Ms Al Sairafi highlighted the sector’s role in enhancing Bahrain’s GDP and creating more employment opportunities for citizens and noted that the 2022-26 tourism strategy is underpinned by a comprehensive national plan encompassing the entire kingdom.
She discussed key statistics and accomplishments, as well as initiatives launched in the first quarter of 2024.
During the meeting, the board also received a comprehensive overview from Ms Buhijji on upcoming tourism and entertainment events, programmes and offers scheduled for the second quarter.
Future partnerships and political collaboration with private sector entities were also discussed, alongside plans to develop marketing campaigns targeted at international tourist offices to attract more visitors.
Ms Buhijji also highlighted collaborative efforts to provide higher education in hospitality and tourism in the kingdom, to create and bolster national talents equipped with internationally recognised skills.
