THE first Bahrain outlet of an international designer fine jewellery brand staged its official opening at City Centre Bahrain in Seef District yesterday.
Kismet by Milka founder Milka Karaağaçlı held a roundtable with the media where she spoke about her journey, the brand aesthetic, new collections and future plans. The marque, which celebrates its 15th anniversary this year opened its first store in Istanbul, Türkiye in 2009.
“Our style is unique and our pieces are versatile and can be worn to work, a wedding, or even a day at the beach,” Ms Karaağaçlı told the GDN, highlighting asymmetry and mixed metals as two of the recurring features in her collections.
“The Milka’s Dreaming collection features jewels designed using yellow, white and rose gold in the same piece, which is difficult, but I like challenges, and everyone in the Kismet family, from those working in the store to those in the workshops have this mentality.”
Milka’s Dreaming, a new collection launched in Bahrain, is inspired by ‘dreaming big’. Ms Karaağaçlı emphasises on how her own journey, which she started ‘from zero’. Today, Kismet by Milka has stores around the world, including Türkiye, Greece, Cyprus, the UAE, Kuwait, the US, Bahrain and, later this year, in London. Motifs such as hearts, angel wings, clouds, stars and the moon, all symbolic of the ‘sky being the limit’, can be found in this capsule.
The Passenger collection, made using 18-carat gold, is inspired by the designer’s belief that we’re all passengers in life, which reflects in the designs. We might face ups and downs and turns, or choose a different path but it’s important that we enjoy our journey. Arrows are a recurring motif as seen on numerous pieces including the Direction Choker.
Other jewels in the capsule include the Twist Ring reminiscent of U-turns, the Mini Railway Hoop Earring, and the Secure Necklace, with a lock designed like a seatbelt, and was a challenge to design.
Kismet by Milka has two distinct categories – the high-end 18-carat, and the 14-carat that is targeted at a younger audience. Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, Gigi Hadid, Rihanna, Anne Hathaway, and Gabrielle Union are some of the celebrities who wear the brand.
The stores also feature piercing studios where you can get your ears pierced by certified experts who use nickel-free materials, making them safe and anti-allergenic.
Kismet by Milka is located at Level 1 of the mall, near entrance A.
