A specialised medical team at the Neuroscience centre of King Abdullah Medical City, a member of the Makkah Health cluster, successfully saved the life of a 70-year-old Algerian pilgrim by removing a large brain tumour in a seven-hour surgery.
The Makkah Health cluster reported that the case began when the patient lost consciousness at his mission’s headquarters, necessitating his urgent transfer to King Faisal Hospital. After conducting the necessary tests, it was decided to transfer him to King Abdullah Medical City. A detailed examination with a CT scan revealed the presence of a brain tumour that required immediate surgical intervention.
The neurosurgery and anaesthesiology team performed a successful, precise, and complex procedure that lasted for seven hours. The medical team managed to remove the tumour completely, allowing the patient to regain consciousness and recover with the cooperation of the neurology care, neurosciences ward, and physical therapy teams. The surgery enabled the pilgrim to walk and be discharged from the hospital in good health, returning to his mission’s headquarters to complete his Haj rituals.
The patient expressed his deep gratitude to the medical team for their tremendous efforts, praising the high level of healthcare he received, which will help him fulfill his dream of completing his Haj rituals. This surgery reflects the ability of King Abdullah Medical City to handle complex medical cases and provide the best levels of healthcare for pilgrims and visitors.
