Alba, the world’s largest smelter on one site, marked a new milestone of 39 million safe working hours without ‘lost-time injury’ (LTI) yesterday.
The company said this reflects the shared commitment of its employees and contractors to a safety-first culture.

“This achievement is a result of the collective vigilance, responsibility, and dedication of our employees and contractors,” said Alba chief executive Ali Al Baqali. “Every safe hour is a testament to our shared mindset – that safety is not just a policy, but a way of life.”
Through continuous training, engagement and transparent safety practices, Alba puts its people first, aligning operational success with human well-being.
According to experts, lost-time injury is a work-related injury or illness that results in an employee being unable to perform their regular job duties for at least one shift or day, and potentially for a longer period or even causing permanent disability or a fatality.
