Jude Bellingham is at risk of being punished by Uefa for a gesture he made after his England goal against Slovakia.
The Three Lions midfielder, 21, rescued his country's Euro 2024 hopes with a sensational bicycle kick to make it 1-1 in the fifth minute of added time before captain Harry Kane scored the winner in extra-time.
Bellingham appeared to make an X-rated gesture - moving his hand from his face to his groin, before thrusting back and forth - seemingly aimed at one of the benches, while celebrating his incredible goal.
The gesture was perceived by many online to be aimed at the Slovakia benches, though Bellingham clarified on X afterwards that the act was ‘an inside joke’ towards some close friends in the stands." He added: “Nothing but respect for how that Slovakia team played tonight.”
Despite the explanation, critics have suggested that Uefa could consider the gesture worthy of sanction - including a one-match ban or a hefty fine.
Uefa’s ethics and disciplinary committee is investigating the matter and a decision will be announced before England’s quarterfinal clash with Switzerland on Saturday.
