AN annual six-a-side football charity event that aims to support key initiatives in Bahrain will make its return, with funds raised directly being contributed to critical causes in the kingdom.
The 29th Annual Six-a-Side Football Tournament, being organised by the Rotary Club of Manama, was announced by the charity during a Press conference yesterday at the Gulf Hotel Bahrain in Manama.
The key fundraising event will feature a friendly tournament, set to take place on October 4 at the Bahrain Rugby Football Club in Saar from 2.30pm to 9pm.
It is expected to bring together teams and members of the community for a worthy cause as part of efforts to raise funds for the club’s core philanthropic endeavours.
Club president Prof Shaikh Khalid bin Mohammed Al Khalifa highlighted the significance of the event, in a statement. He said that funds raised through the event will be used to support three critical causes – education, essential food supplies and youth empowerment.
“Our fundraising efforts are targeted at addressing several pressing needs within the kingdom,” he said.
“We aim to ensure that access to quality education is universal, regardless of a person’s circumstances, through our Education for All initiative.
“Additionally, we are dedicated to supporting those who live below the poverty line by providing essential resources such as food and shelter.
“Moreover, youth empowerment remains a key focus, with our programmes aimed at fostering vocational training and mental and physical well-being of Bahrain’s youth.”
Community members and businesses are encouraged to attend and show their support and make a significant impact in the lives of many people across the kingdom.
The event has been held every year since 1976, except from 2019 to 2021 because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Last year’s edition featured 16 teams, and was won by the British University of Bahrain (BUB 1) after defeating their second team (BUB 2), 2-1, in an exciting final at the Bahrain Rugby Football Club.
Those who would like to register a team can do so either by visiting the charity’s website at rotarymanama.org, or by contacting the organising committee directly by calling the club’s admin secretary at 66357859.
