Dubai Police recently announced that they had penalised 37 people since the beginning of the year for jaywalking in the Naif area. Each person was fined AED 400 as per Article 89 of the Federal Traffic Law.
The individuals were fined for crossing the road dangerously, ignoring traffic laws, and endangering themselves and motorists on the road.
Eight people were killed and 399 injured in accidents last year because of people crossing the road from undesignated places, the Dubai police said.
In 2023, nearly 44,000 pedestrians were fined for jaywalking.
