FOOTBALL – BAHRAIN’S national mini-football team pulled off a remarkable achievement by holding hosts Azerbaijan to a 1-1 draw in the opening match of the Mini-Football World Cup in Baku.
The draw came after a goal by the Azerbaijani team. The national team came back strongly to score the equaliser through Ahmed Antar, who came closest to scoring the winning goal after having several golden opportunities.
The Bahraini team received widespread praise and Ammar Mihad was named Player of the Match for his outstanding performance.
The national team are now preparing to face Mauritania next as they seek to achieve a positive result that will bring them closer to qualifying for the second round of the tournament under the leadership of coach Adel Marzouki.
Bahrain are included in Group A which also has Slovakia.
In another match, Spain made a strong statement at the National Gymnastics Arena in Baku, blanking Ghana 3–0 in a Group H performance.
The international tournament will end on June 1, promising high-energy competition from top mini-football countries.
