BASKETBALL – BAHRAIN Olympic Committee (BOC) vice-president Shaikh Isa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa visited a training session of the kingdom’s youth national team ahead of their departure for their overseas training camp in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The camp is part of their preparations for the U16 Asia Cup Gulf Basketball Association (GBA) Qualifiers 2025, which is set to be hosted by the kingdom from July 7 to 12.
The visit was attended by Bahrain Basketball Association (BBA) vice-president Nader Al Awadhi and several board members.
During the meeting, Shaikh Isa conveyed the greetings of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman, and BOC president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa to the players and the technical and administrative staff.
Shaikh Isa encouraged them to benefit fully from the training camp, which runs from today to July 4, and expressed confidence in the team’s ability to represent Bahraini basketball with distinction. He highlighted the importance of youth development and emphasised the BOC’s support for national teams in cooperation with the BBA.
The upcoming tournament is set to feature all six GCC nations. It is the qualification event for this year’s Fiba Asia U16 Championship, which is set to be held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, this September. Games will be held at the BBA Arena in Um Al Hassam, and play will begin with a preliminary round, to be followed by the knockouts.
