BASKETBALL – BAHRAIN’S Seef 3x3 basketball team will be making their historic debut on the Fiba 3x3 World Tour later this month in France.
This was announced yesterday by the Bahrain Basketball Association (BBA).
The Bahrainis will be playing in the Orleans Challenger event on July 11 and 12. It is a qualifier for the Shenzhen Masters in China, scheduled for October 4 and 5 later this year.
The Fiba 3x3 World Tour is the premier international street basketball series that hosts meetings of various levels worldwide. A Challenger is a premium tournament that is one of two kinds of qualifiers for top-tier Masters events, with the other being a Quest competition.
Seef’s participation in Orleans will mark the second Bahraini team competing on the Fiba 3x3 World Tour. They are joining Riffa, who are predominantly made up of Belgian talents along with Bahraini star Mohammed Kowayed, who earlier this season made history as the first-ever player from the kingdom to compete on the Fiba 3x3 World Tour.
Seef are set to feature an all-Bahraini roster with Sayed Mohammed Hameed, Sadeq Shukrallah, Hassan Fahad, Nasser Al Mosawi, and Murtadha Salman making up their current squad.
They have begun their preparations locally ahead of their highly anticipated maiden campaign and are training under the supervision of Serbian basketball coach Bogdan Dragovic and Bahraini tactician Murtadha Mohammed.
The nationals will be holding an overseas training camp in Belgrade, Serbia, from this Saturday to Thursday next week, during which they will be playing a number of tune-up games.
That will then set the stage for their participation in Orleans, which currently has 16 teams entered. The others are Riffa, Ub from Serbia, Vienna from Austria, Carolina from Puerto Rico, Hangzhou from China, Marijampole Mantinga from Lithuania, Podebrady from the Czech Republic, Bucharest from Romania, Zurich Gutzwiller from Switzerland, Milan from Italy, Tbilisi from Georgia, and the French quartet of Toulouse, Bordeaux, Ermont Senef and Elancourt.
Following their foray in Orleans, Seef are then scheduled to compete in their first-ever Masters event in Hong Kong on July 19 and 20.
Other Masters competitions have already taken place in Japan, China, the Netherlands, France, Austria and Mongolia. Following Hong Kong, events will be held in Edmonton, Canada; Lausanne, Switzerland; Debrecen, Hungary; Shanghai and Shenzhen in China; Macau; and Abu Dhabi, the UAE; before heading to Bahrain for the Fiba 3x3 World Tour 2025 finale on November 21 and 22.
Bahrain had also hosted the Manama Masters the past two seasons and this year will be staging the series’ curtain-closer for the first time.
