BASKETBALL – BAHRAIN’S senior men’s basketball national team take on Asian powerhouses Japan today in their opening game of the 44th William Jones Cup.
The prestigious tournament is being held in Chinese Taipei until July 20, with nine top teams from across the continent competing in the men’s event.
Their contest against the Japanese is scheduled for an 8am tip-off, Bahrain time.
The nationals, coached by Georgios Vovoras from Greece, have a team in the competition that includes Mustafa Hussain, Ahmed Salman, Mohammed Ameer, Subah Hussain, Mohammed Buallay, Ali Jaber, Wayne Chism, JaKarr Sampson, Mahmood Abbas, Ali Hussain, Ahmed bin Deina, and Abdulqader Thani.
They held a training session yesterday at the venue to conclude their final preparations for today’s start of play.
The William Jones Cup is one of the most renowned and popular international basketball tournaments in Asia. Bahrain are set to play eight highly competitive games in the event.
They will also be taking on their counterparts from Australia, Malaysia, the UAE, and Chinese Taipei, while their other fixtures will be against Chinese Taipei’s national development team, the Qatar B team, and defending champions Strong Group Athletics from the Philippines.
