BASKETBALL – BAHRAIN’S youth basketball national team were awarded their champions’ trophy and medals last night on the concluding day of the Fiba U16 Asia Cup Gulf Basketball Association (GBA) Qualifiers 2025.
Supreme Council for Youth and Sports first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority (GSA) chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa attended the closing ceremony and handed out the awards to the home side.
Also in attendance were GSA deputy chairman Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, BOC vice-president Shaikh Isa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, GSA CEO Dr Abdulrahman Askar, Bahrain Basketball Association president Alaa Mudara, and other high-ranking officials.
Shaikh Khalid was presented by Mudara a commemorative jersey signed by the national team.
The five-nation tournament was hosted over the past week by the kingdom and the Bahrainis clinched the title after winning all four of their games in decisive fashion.
Also with their triumph, the Bahrainis punched their tickets to this year’s Fiba U16 Asia Cup, to be held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, this September.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia defeated Kuwait 73-50 and the UAE edged past Oman 69-65 in the two fixtures yesterday, which wrapped up tournament play. Bahrain were not in action last night, having already completed their schedule on Friday.
The nationals were coached in the tournament by Tunisian Racem Marzougui. He had a squad that included Somto Patrick Onoduenyi, Hassan Oshobuge Abdulkadir, Mohamed Adel Abdulla, Ali Khalil Habib, Hussain Ahmed Madan, Ali Husian Mohamed, Yousif Yaqoob Meshaei, Yousif Ali Alsamaheeji, Ali Alhaddad, Mohamed Mahmood Farhan, Hasan Ruyan, and Hussain Fuad Ghuloom.
The Bahrainis have qualified for the Fiba Asia U16 Championship for the sixth time in their history.
