CRICKET – BAHRAIN fell to a 10-wicket defeat against Tanzania yesterday in the final of the Arjun Menon Memorial Quad Nations T20 Cup in Malawi.
Tanzania delivered a dominant performance at The Cricket Academy Oval and High Performance Centre.
Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, their bowlers ripped through Bahrain’s batting lineup, restricting them to a paltry 89 all out in 19 overs. Only Junaid Aziz (28 off 36 balls) showed some resistance, while Salum Ally (3/18) and Ally Mpeka (3/12) wreaked havoc with the ball.
Bahrain’s innings never gained momentum, losing wickets at regular intervals. Extras (nine) were the third-highest contributor, highlighting their struggles.
In reply, Tanzania’s openers Arun Yadav (48 off 32) and Dhrumit Mehta (36 off 29) made light work of the target, cruising to 90/0 in just 10.1 overs.
The duo smashed 11 fours and three sixes between them, leaving Bahrain’s bowlers helpless.
Salum Ally was named Player of the Match for his brilliant spell (three wickets for 18 runs), which set up Tanzania’s emphatic win in the finale.
