AQUATICS – BAHRAIN Aquatics celebrated its Golden Jubilee last night, marking 50 years since its establishment in 1974.
The celebration was held under the patronage of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority (GSA) chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa. It took place at Exhibition World Bahrain, attended by dignitaries, guests, pioneers, and founding members of the federation.
Shaikh Khalid commended Bahrain Aquatics as one of the kingdom’s pioneering sports bodies, commending its continuous development and notable achievements over five decades, which reflect the dedicated efforts of its successive administrations.
Shaikh Khalid highlighted the federation’s 50-year journey of achievements, from its founding in 1974 as the Bahrain Swimming Association to its rebranding in 2024 as Bahrain Aquatics. He described its achievements as a source of pride and a driving force for advancing Bahrain’s regional and international presence in aquatic sports.
Shaikh Khalid expressed appreciation to all those who contributed to the federation’s success, past presidents, administrators, coaches, and athletes, calling for continued teamwork to drive future achievements.
During the ceremony, Shaikh Khalid launched Bahrain Aquatics’ new logo.
Also in attendance during the event were GSA deputy chairman Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, and BOC vice-president Shaikh Isa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa.
GSA CEO Dr Abdulrahman Askar addressed the audience. His remarks were followed by a documentary on the federation’s history. Bahrain Aquatics president Abdulla Atiya also announced the launch of Bahrain Aquatics’ new website.
The event concluded with honouring former presidents, veteran swimmers, sponsors, and contributors, followed by a commemorative gift presentation to Shaikh Khalid and a group photo with the federation board, champions of the 29th GCC Swimming Championships, and seasoned competitors.
