BASKETBALL – BAHRAIN representatives Riffa are back in action in the Fiba 3x3 World Tour this weekend.
The veterans of street basketball’s premier series under the International Basketball Federation (Fiba) will be competing in the Pristina Challenger 2025 in Kosovo tomorrow and Sunday.
The meeting also acts as a qualifier for the Lausanne Masters in Switzerland, scheduled for August 15 and 16.
Riffa will be playing in the tournament with a squad that features Belgians Dennis Donkor, Vic Van Oosterwyck, and Andrej Cuyvers, along with Bahraini Mohammed Kowayed. They are in Pool C alongside NY Harlem from the US and one of the two teams who will make it from the qualifying bracket.
Pool A features Raudondvaris Hoptrans of Lithuania, Bordeaux of France, and Adazi of Latvia; Pool B is composed of Vienna from Austria, Shinagawa City Exe of Japan, and Rome from Italy; while Pool D comprises Baskets Bonn Telekom of Germany, Carolina of Puerto Rico, and the second side from the qualifiers.
Riffa begin their campaign tomorrow against the qualifying side and then play NY Harlem in their next fixture. The knockout stages will take place on Sunday.
While Riffa are competing in Pristina, fellow-Bahraini outfit Seef are also in action this weekend in the Hong Kong Masters, also taking place tomorrow and Sunday.
After making their historic Fiba 3x3 World Tour debut last week in the Orelans Challenger in France, Seef are all geared up to play in their first-ever Masters event, which is top-tier competition in the series.
The Seef quartet of Sayed Mohammed Hameed, Sadeq Shukrallah, Hassan Fahad, and Nasser Al Mosawi will be competing in Pool B alongside French outfit Toulouse and Skyliners from Germany.
Pool A features Ub of Serbia, Kandava Turiba of Latvia, and Hong Kong; Pool C is composed of Amsterdam Rabobank of the Netherlands, Partizan of Serbia, and one of two squads from the qualifying draw; and Pool D comprises Miami of the US, Chongming of China, and the second qualifier.
Six sides are competing in qualification, namely Ulaanbaatar MMC Energy of Mongolia, Shanghai of China, Milan of Italy, Hangzhou and Guangzhou STR Revo, both of China, as well as Doha of Qatar.
Seef begin their campaign against Toulouse and then face off with Skyliners in their other fixture.
The Fiba 3x3 World Tour 2025 has already held Masters events in Japan, China, the Netherlands, France, Austria, and Mongolia, with other events also set to be held in Canada, Switzerland, Hungary, China, Macau, and the UAE before heading to Bahrain for the Fiba 3x3 World Tour 2025 finale on November 21 and 22.
