Ways to enhance co-operation between Bahrain and the World Health Organisation (WHO) in the field of youth-oriented public health were the focus of a key meeting.
Youth Affairs Ministry planning and development adviser Shaikha Dina bint Rashid Al Khalifa met WHO acting representative in the kingdom Dr Asad Hafeez and emphasised the global organisation’s role in supporting and developing health systems worldwide.
She commended its efforts in promoting prevention and healthy lifestyles for youth, individuals and communities.
Shaikha Dina highlighted the ministry’s interest in partnering with leading international bodies, including WHO, to implement health and awareness programmes and initiatives targeting the youth, in line with the ministry’s objectives to promote a healthy and sustainable lifestyle.
She added that promoting healthy lifestyles was one of the priorities of the National Strategy for Youth Empowerment, emphasising that the ministry was working to integrate health concepts into youth activities and initiatives in an innovative and effective manner.
Dr Hafeez expressed WHO’s pride in the growing partnership with the ministry, noting that its programmes and projects reflected its active commitment to public health and comprehensive youth development.
He pointed out that the organisation will continue to work with the ministry to launch joint health and awareness initiatives aimed at spreading a culture of prevention and promoting healthy lifestyles among young people, thus contributing to building a generation that is aware and able to contribute to its society in a healthy manner.
