HORSERACING – Gloriously Sassy and Aparajeo triumphed in the two richest races last night to headline the 27th meeting of the 2025-26 season at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in Sakhir.
Gloriously Sassy lifted the BAS Mile Cup in the fourth of the evening’s 10-race card, while Aparajeo claimed the BAS Sprint Cup in race five.
The meeting was attended by Prime Minister’s Court Minister and REHC High Committee chairman Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Gloriously Sassy emerged victorious in the BAS Mile Cup after 1,600 metres to come away with the biggest portion of the BD3,000 in winnings.
The four-year-old gelding was ridden by jockey Ebrahim Nader for owners Al Adiyat Racing and trainers Daniel and Claire Kubler.
They finished a length-and-a-half from runner-up Salvuccio, who was competing for Hasan Mohamed Al Doseri, Ali Jan, and Edinson Rodriguez.
Sky Advocate took third place for Mohamediya, Ali Abdulmajeed, and Hasan Al Saffar, while Anwaar ranked fourth for Mohamediya and Abdulmajeed, with Jessop in the saddle.
Aparajeo clinched the BAS Sprint Cup for owners Al Mohamediya Racing and trainer Mohamed Hasan, with jockey Qasim Jameel in the saddle.
Jameel steered the four-year-old gelding to first place by a half-length’s margin ahead of Raahy at the end of the ride’s 1,200m straight, claiming the lion’s share of the BD3,000 total prize.
Raahy was second for Rashed Racing, Yousif Alboainain, and Ali Isa, while Inveigle came third for Sayed Jawad Marzooq, Mahmood Jawad, and Mohammed Jamil.
Grand City Hall completed the prize winners in fourth place for Mohamediya, Reyadh Ahmed, and Husain Makki.
Also yesterday, Evergreen won the BAS Cup in the evening’s eighth race, held over 2,000m with BD2,000 in prizes.
The four-year-old filly was victorious for the Adiyat-Kublers-Nader triumvirate, cruising to first place by more than three lengths from runner-up Aajay, racing for Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa, Robert McDowall, and Abdulla Faisal.
Budget took third for Mohamediya, Abdulmajeed, and Hussain Asghar, while Pegasus ranked fourth for owners L&Z Racing and trainer Sayed Jaafar Isa, with Al Saffar as the jockey.
Elsewhere in last night’s meeting, Obeyan 1777 won the Al Rouda Cup in race one (1,600m, BD1,500) for Al Khaldiya, Fawzi Nass, and Makki; Ashcombe took the Grnata Real Estate Cup in race two (1,600m, BD2,000) for Al Asayel Racing, Khalid Al Khatri and Nader; Yazaman lifted the Empire Limo Apprentice Cup in race three (1,600m, BD2,000) for Faisal Adel Abdulla, Adel Abdulla, and Jameel; Golden Arrow claimed the Empire Limo Cup in race six (1,200m str, BD2,000) for Al Hermes Racing, Osama Hashim, and Adnan Jaffar; and Almanjoor won the Grnata Cup in the evening’s seventh race (1,000m, BD2,000) for the Mohamediya-Abdulmajeed-Asghar connections.
