INTERIOR Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa has praised the role of the Ombudsman Office in promoting reform, justice, the rule of law and human rights principles.
He also commended its professional performance during a meeting with Ombudsman Office Secretary General Ghada Habib.
The meeting was attended by ministry Under-Secretary Shaikh Nasser bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa.
The minister highlighted that human rights in the kingdom are an integral part of the authenticity of Bahraini society, its traditions and customs and are a central element in all security work.
He said that developing programmes and initiatives that contribute to enhancing community security stems from the vision of His Majesty King Hamad, who established human rights and supervisory institutions and worked to enhance their role in consolidating the human rights system.
Gen Shaikh Rashid commended the ongoing support provided by the government, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to implement projects aimed at advancing the approach of building and social cohesion.
The Interior Minister pointed out that developing the mechanisms of supervisory authorities, enhancing the principles of transparency and accountability and constructive engagement with oversight bodies contribute to improving performance and the quality of services provided.
He received a copy of the annual report of the Ombudsman Office, directing the relevant directorates to respond promptly to the points raised in the report related to the work of the ministry, in line with the community partnership strategy.
The secretary general expressed appreciation to the minister, noting that the co-operation shown by the ministry contributes to the success of the Ombudsman Office and the performance of its assigned tasks.
