In yesterday’s matches, Asif wasn’t the only big name to be eliminated, as last year’s men’s six-red world champion Kamal Chawla of India was beaten by Wai 4-3 (35-27, 38-19, 20-39, 26-39, 11-47, 64-0, 72-6). Wai next takes on Al Joaker, who roared back from a three-frames-to-none deficit to beat Ali Alobaidli of Qatar, also 4-3 (24-37, 1-44, 9-29, 36-9, 40-9, 36-22, 52-11).
Saif also needed to fight back from 0-3 down in defeating masters world silver-medallist Brijesh Damani of India 4-3 (1-46, 3-48, 22-48, 34-32, 43-0, 44-3, 37-33). He will next play Chandra, who was a 4-3 (37-0, 26-34, 14-40, 37-12, 41-6, 17-44, 36-25) winner against Omar Alajlani of Saudi Arabia.
Third-seed Advani was a cool 4-0 (43-35, 41-0, 31-23, 31-8) victor yesterday against Ahmed Aseeri, also from Saudi. Advani moved on to face Skalski, who defeated Bahrain’s Khalil Busaif – the national team’s only player in the six-red knockouts – 4-1 (56-16, 33-9, 40-32, 28-40, 34-15).
Sixteen-year-old Qien followed suit with a 4-2 (34-15, 39-13, 7-39, 21-32, 34-23, 40-23) triumph against Thaha Irshath. Qien will next face Mohammadi in the last 16. Mohammadi beat Eissa Al Hashmi of the UAE 4-2 (23-39, 39-17, 47-17, 4-52, 46-24, 29-21).

Meanwhile, Ramzan and Kwan Chun Wong of Hong Kong booked their places last night in the quarter-finals of the men’s under-21 competition, also taking place as part of this year’s IBSF World Snooker Championships in Bahrain.
The last 16 contests took place as part of yesterday’s late schedule, with the remaining six matches missing our deadlines.
Ramzan upset top-seeded compatriot and newly crowned under-17 world champion Muhammad Hasnain 4-1 (70-54, 107-0, 0-72, 106-32, 64-6) to make it through to the elite eight. Ramzan came up narrowly short of a century break in his match, scoring a 99 in the second frame.
Wong, on the other hand, beat Amaan Iqbal 4-0 (64-54, 71-42, 89-0, 64-22) to march through.
