VOLLEYBALL – BAHRAIN’S senior men’s volleyball national team take on their counterparts from Kuwait tonight in one of four exciting quarter-finals in the first WAVA Men’s Volleyball Championship 2025, currently being hosted by the kingdom.
The nationals secured their match-up in the round of eight after finishing as winners from Pool A in the competition’s preliminary round. They won all of their three matches – each with a three-set sweep – against Jordan, Lebanon, and the UAE.
Their clash is scheduled for a 7pm start at Isa bin Rashid Volleyball Arena, located at Isa Sports City in Riffa.
The other quarter-final match-ups see Oman face the UAE at 1pm, Saudi Arabia play Jordan at 3pm, and Qatar – who are the only other unbeaten team so far in the tournament – lock horns with Lebanon at 5pm.
Following today’s fixtures, two classification games will be played tomorrow. Other classification contests along with the semis will then take place on Friday, while the gold and bronze medal games will be held on Saturday.
All contests will be played at the same venue. Entry is free.
Bahrain, coached by French tactician and former Olympian Arnaud Josserand, have been impressive so far throughout the championship, getting contributions from their entire line-up in their victories. The team’s players include Mohammed Yaqoob, Naser Anan, Ali Ebrahim, Mahmood Alafyah, Ayman Harwana, Mohammed Anan, Abbas Al Khabbaz, Hussain Mansoor, Sayed Hashem Issa, Mahmoud Abdulwahed, Mohammed Jassim, Hasan Al Warqaa, Hani Alawi, and Abbas Sultan.
The Bahrainis are gunning for their second major title in less than a month. In June, they had secured an historic crown in the AVC Men’s Volleyball Nations Cup 2025 – their first-ever championship in an Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) event.
It followed their sensational title triumph in the 23rd Arab Men’s Volleyball Championship, held last November.
Both competitions were also held in the kingdom.
