CRICKET – Bahrain secured a commanding 45-run victory over Malawi yesterday in the Tri-Nations Series league match in Rwanda.
Opting to bat first, Bahrain posted a formidable total of 176/4 in their 20 overs, thanks to explosive performances from their top-order batters.
Bahrain’s innings was anchored by a scintillating 62 off just 29 balls from Sohail Ahmed, who smashed five fours and four sixes at a staggering strike rate of 213.79. He was well-supported by Prashant Kurup (56 off 42 balls) and Fiaz Ahmed (44 off 34), the in-form middle order as Bahrain capitalised on Malawi’s bowling lapses.
Malawi’s bowlers struggled to contain the flow of runs, with only Kelvin Tuchila (1/23) and Chisomo Tchale (1/37) managing breakthroughs. In reply, Malawi’s chase was spearheaded by captain Sami Sohail, who top scored with a brisk 67 off 43 deliveries. However, the rest of the batting line-up faltered against Bahrain’s disciplined bowling attack.
Ali Dawood was the standout bowler, claiming four wickets for just 16 runs, while Muhammad Rizwan Butt (2/22) and Shashank Shukla (1/15) provided crucial support. Malawi were eventually bowled out for 131 in 19.3 overs, falling short by 45 runs.
