A rare Labubu doll has been sold for a record-breaking $10,500, making it the most expensive of the viral toys on the platform.
The grey-brownish doll, wearing Vans streetwear and a blue and orange hat reading ‘The Monsters’, was sold on the e-commerce platform eBay.
According to reports, the toy, riding the skateboard, came out in 2023 as a collaboration between the shoe brand Vans and Labubu. It was priced at $85 at the time of its release.
Labubus come in a variety of colours and styles, each sold in ‘blind boxes’, meaning you don’t know which one you’ll get until it’s opened.
The toothy creatures with an eerie smile were first designed a decade ago by Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung, who said they were inspired by Nordic mythology and supernatural folklore.
He licensed his designs to Chinese company Pop Mart in 2019, who turned them into collectible plush toys.
