MOTORSPORT – BAHRAINI-British GT team 2 Seas Motorsport took a major step yesterday towards clinching an historic drivers’ and teams’ title-double in the 2025 British GT Championship.
2 Seas are one event away from this incredible feat after claiming a sensational victory in the season’s eighth and penultimate round at Brands Hatch circuit in the UK.
The tandem of Charles Dawson and Kiern Jewiss took the chequered flag in their #42 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo despite starting from sixth on the grid. They had a good start, charged through the field, and held on in a tight finish to win the gruelling two-hour race – their third triumph of this campaign.
It was also the first time a Mercedes car won at the track in the series.
Dawson and Jewiss now head to the British GT’s 2025 finale in October at Donington Park as favourites for the drivers’ crown, with 2 Seas also in prime position to secure the coveted teams’ championship following yesterday’s results.
Their teammates Kevin Tse and Maximillian Goetz, who started from pole in 2 Seas’ #18 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo, were classified seventh overall yesterday. They finished 11.201 seconds from the winning pair and stayed with a mathematical chance from stealing away the drivers’ title.
“Charles won us the race at the start,” said Jewiss yesterday after he brought the car home. “We knew we were nowhere near pace-wise and we needed to have a little bit of luck, and that’s what we had.
“Management-wise, it was nice, so let’s see what happens in Donington – it’s going to be tough.”
Dawson added: “We were really happy with the start – jumped a couple of cars, but not really sure what happened.
“Struggled for pace after that and I was really having to push. Handed it over to Kiern – then he had one of the top drivers behind him at the end, and I can’t commend him more.”
Dawson and Jewiss beat their closest challengers, Optimum Motorsport’s Morgan Tillbrook and Marvin Kirchhofer in a McLaren 720S GT3 Evo, by just 0.499 seconds after Kirchhofer pressured Jewiss towards the finish.
Joining them on the podium in third overall were Barwell Motorsport’s Rob Collard and Hugo Cook in a Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo2, who finished 1.382s behind.
“Amazing – they’re one of the top teams around, and you can’t fault the job they do, all the guys,” Dawson added in describing 2 Seas Motorsport, co-owned by Bahrain’s Shaikh Isa bin Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa. “At the end of the day, we’ve still got a long way to go in Donington. There’s so much work to do and we’re going to approach it corner to corner.”
The British GT Championship’s ninth and final round is set for October 4 and 5.
