VOLLEYBALL – BAHRAIN take on Egypt this evening in the gold medal game of the 17th Arab Junior Volleyball Championship, currently being held in Amman, Jordan.
The final is scheduled for a 7pm start at Sports Palace Hall in Al Hussein Youth City.
The kingdom’s under-18 men’s volleyball national team qualified for the final after defeating their counterparts from Lebanon in three sets on Saturday night. The Egyptians, on the other hand, were 3-0 victors against Libya in the other semi-final clash.
The Bahrainis, coached by Santiago Faidutti from Argentina, are so far undefeated in the tournament. Prior to their win in the last four, they took care of Kuwait, Iraq, and Palestine in the group stage, and then claimed a quarter-final victory over hosts Jordan.
Prior to tonight’s gold medal clash, the bronze medal contest will be played between Lebanon and Libya. The competition’s closing and awarding ceremony will follow.
The championship has been organised and is being run by the Arab Volleyball Association (AVA), chaired by Bahrain Volleyball Association (BVA) president Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, in cooperation with the Jordan Volleyball Federation.
The kingdom’s delegation in Amman is headed by BVA vice-president Mohammed Al Thawadi. BVA secretary general Feras Al Helwachi, who is also the AVA secretary general, is also in Amman.
