An Arab woman has been fined BD74,500 after she deceived a European man into handing over his Porsche Carrera in exchange for a forged cheque.
The man had listed his car for sale for AED695,000 (BD69,500) when he was contacted by the woman, who expressed interest in purchasing the vehicle.
Once they met, she presented him with a counterfeit sales contract and a forged manager's cheque. Trusting her, the man transferred ownership of the car to a third party she provided, only to later discover the cheque was fraudulent.
After the bank notified him that the cheque was fake, he immediately alerted the police. The Dubai criminal court swiftly took legal action, sentencing her to a month in prison with a three-year suspended sentence. She was also fined the value of the car, in addition to AED50,000 (BD5,000) for emotional damages.
