The United States could appoint its first woman ambassador to Bahrain as the White House released the latest nomination list sent to the Senate for presidential action.
Stephanie Hallett, of Florida, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, Class of Minister-Counsellor, was nominated to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the US to Bahrain.
If approved, she will become the first US woman ambassador since the start of formal diplomatic ties between the two countries in 1971.
Ms Hallett is being nominated for the second time for the same post.
The GDN reported last year that former US President Joe Biden had nominated Ms Hallett as the next ambassador to Bahrain.
The US Senate was notified at the time and it was referred it to the Foreign Relations Committee. However, the Senate did not approve of the nomination.
Ms Hallett currently serves as Deputy Chief of Mission of the US Embassy in Jerusalem. Previously, she was the Acting Senior Director for the Middle East and North Africa and Director of Gulf Affairs at the National Security Council, the White House.
She has also served as the Political and Economic Section Chief at the US Embassy in Manama, Bahrain.
The diplomat has served in Egypt, Saudi Arabia and other US consulates.
Ms Hallett holds a Bachelor’s degree from the George Washington University, Washington, DC and a Master of Philosophy from the Cambridge University in the UK.
She speaks Arabic and Spanish.
