Bahrain and Malaysia have reaffirmed their commitment to expanding economic and strategic co-operation during a high-level meeting between His Majesty King Hamad and King Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar.
The talks, held yesterday in the presence of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, focused on strengthening ties across sectors such as banking, fintech, tourism, agriculture and infrastructure development.
Both leaders emphasised shared values of tolerance and peace, and reiterated their joint advocacy for a two-state solution in Gaza.
His Majesty described the Malaysian monarch’s historic visit as a milestone that would further consolidate the deep-rooted ties between the two nations.
“The Kingdoms of Malaysia and Bahrain have a friendship rooted in our many common values, including tolerance and inclusivity across society, religious diversity, women’s rights and our widely-respected commitment to peace, coexistence and mutual respect,” His Majesty said in his address.
“We strongly advocate for peace in Gaza, the delivery of humanitarian and reconstruction aid, and a two-state solution as the only lasting route to peace in the Middle East.
“Our countries already enjoy a wealth of cultural links and business opportunities, and Your Majesty can be assured that Bahrain is fully committed to deepening and expanding our collaboration in these and many other areas. By doing so, we will undoubtedly benefit both nations and their peoples, based on friendship, trust and shared objectives.
“Malaysia’s impressive national growth has been achieved through outstanding success in business, industry and agriculture, areas in which Bahrain also excels.
“We therefore have much to gain from each other in sectors such as banking, fintech, tourism, agriculture, and infrastructure development.
“With Your Majesty’s approval, Bahrain aims to be a valued, sincere, and long-term partner to Malaysia, working constructively in these and other fields to further enhance our relationship.
“Your Majesty and your nation have been steadfast brothers and allies of Bahrain, and in renewing appreciation for your visit, I sincerely hope that our friendship will further grow and prosper in the coming years.”
King Sultan Ibrahim extended his sincere gratitude to His Majesty for the warm welcome and generous hospitality extended to him, his sons and the Malaysian delegation.
“Although I am away from home, I never feel far away in this beautiful Kingdom of Bahrain. To me, Bahrain is my home,” he said.
“I never imagined that I would find someone in this part of the world whom I could truly call a brother.
“Bahrain is no stranger to Malaysia. We share similarities, mutual respect, and a spirit of brotherhood. We share common values, aspirations, and a commitment to peace, prosperity and progress for our peoples.
“The kingdom is an important partner to Malaysia. We look forward to further strengthening our economic co-operation in line with Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030.
“I hope that my visit will mark a new chapter in our relations – one that helps shape the future direction of our partnership.”
Following the speeches, His Majesty hosted a dinner banquet in honour of the Malaysian monarch, which was attended by senior officials from both countries. The national anthems of Bahrain and Malaysia were played during the ceremony.
