The Public Prosecution has ordered a private driver be remanded in custody pending further investigation over allegations that he left a young schoolgirl in his vehicle after the school run.
The Public Prosecution launched an immediate investigation into the case after the child’s father reported it to Budaiya Police Station.
The driver has been accused of failing to check the vehicle after dropping off students.
He told the authorities that his car had broken down and he had to place it on to a recovery truck.
He left without ensuring it was empty, leaving the child inside asleep.
He discovered her only after being contacted by her family, he added.
The Public Prosecution emphasised its resolve to continue dealing firmly with transport violations endangering students and urged parents to use licenced drivers who are required to follow safety procedures, including ensuring that their vehicles are empty before leaving them.
