HORSERACING – MUDALLAL lifted the NBB Thara’a Cup last night for Al Mohamediya Racing at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in Sakhir.
The seven-year-old gelding triumphed in the sixth event of an exciting eight-race card, which was sponsored by National Bank of Bahrain (NBB) and with eight NBB Cups up for the taking.
Amongst those in attendance yesterday were Supreme Council for the Environment vice-president, REHC High Committee deputy chairman, and Supreme Council for Youth and Sports member Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa, along with General Sports Authority deputy chairman and Bahrain Combat Sports Council president Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa.
Mudallal won the 2,000m sixth race, which offered BD3,000 in winnings, with Jason Hart in the saddle. The Fawzi Nass-trained contender enjoyed a massive gap of seven-and-a-quarter lengths from runner-up Epic, competing for owners Alliance Racing and trainer Yousif Alboainain, and ridden by Husain Makki.
Al Nader was third for Abduljalil Salman Hasan, Talal Al Alawi, and Mark Lawson; while Hercules came fourth for Al Sadah and Al Marzooq Racing, Mahmood Jawad, and Ahmed Maki.
Meanwhile, Hot Dancer triumphed for Mohamediya, trainer Ali Abdulmajeed, and Hart in yesterday’s 2,000m fifth race to claim the NBB Cup.
The three-year-old colt secured the lion’s share of the BD3,000 total prize ahead of Laser Guided, competing for Victorious Forever, Yousif Taher, and Ebrahim Nader. Monty Bay came third for Al Mallah Racing, Abduljaleel Al Mallah, and Gavin Ryan; while Miss Yvone took fourth for Mohamediya, Abdulmajeed, and Hussain Asghar.
Four-year-old gelding Asimov secured the NBB Mile Cup for Al Afoo Racing, Jaber Ramadhan, and Mirko Sanna in yesterday’s fourth race, held over 1,600m with BD3,000 on offer.
Battyeford Boy came second for Abdulla Al Gaoud, Abdulla Kuwaiti, and Lee Newman; Catherine Parr was third for the Mohamediya-Abdulmajeed-Hart connections; and Glen Savage came fourth for the Mallah-Al Mallah-Ryan triumvirate.
Athan emerged triumphant in race two yesterday to lift the NBB Rising Generation Cup. Sanna steered the five-year-old gelding to the win for Gulf Racing Club and Nass for the largest share of the BD3,000 prize after 1,400m.
Crypto Princess was second for Mohammed Khalid Abdulrahim, Haider Ebrahim, and Benoit De La Sayette; Mujtahid was third for Mohamediya-Abdulmajeed-Hart; and Hardtail came fourth for Fateel Brothers Syndicate, Adel Abdulla, and Nader.
Elsewhere yesterday, Kuheilan Aafas 1970 won the NBB Arabian Cup for Victorious Forever, Taher, and Lawson; Hajmah claimed the NBB Sprint Cup for Mohamed, Abdulmajeed, and Asghar; the Minder won the NBB Bahrain Bred Cup for Victorious Forever, Paul Smith, and Franky Vanhonsebrouck; and King of the Throne lifted the NBB Prestige Cup for Afoo, Ramadhan, and Nader.
