MMA – BAHRAIN’S mixed martial arts (MMA) superstar and three-time world champion Gimbat Magomedov advanced yesterday to the gold medal match of the senior men’s super welterweight 79.4kg category in the 2025 IMMAF Asian Championships, currently being held Jounieh, Lebanon.
Magomedov secured his place in his division’s final after winning by technical knockout against Hadi Falah from Syria yesterday in the last four. He will now face Safar-Makhsum Safarov from Tajikistan this evening in the title-decider.
Magomedov is one of four Bahraini MMA stars who will be stepping into the cage today in gold medal bouts as part of the concluding day’s programme in the International MMA Federation (IMMAF) event.
Fellow three-time world champion Gadzhi Gadzhiev is another, while Isaev Abdulla and Arsen Suleimanov complete the kingdom’s quartet.
Gadzhiev will be taking on Hadi Awada from Lebanon in the senior men’s super middleweight 88.4kg final. Abdula will face Abylay Shakirbekov from Kazakhstan in the senior men’s light heavyweight 93kg title-decider, and Suleimanov will go for gold in the junior men’s light heavyweight 93kg final against Anthony Loutfi from Lebanon.
Bahrain have so far won five medals in the competition – one silver and four bronze – in the youth categories.
Rashed Alsaleh captured the silver medal in the youth men’s C 44kg, Abdulla Hussain won bronze in the youth men’s B 44kg division, Mohammad Abubaqr took bronze in the youth men’s C 37kg, Jassim Abubaqr claimed bronze in the youth men’s D 37kg, and Abdulla Qahtan captured bronze in the youth men’s A featherweight 65.8kg category.
