Bahrain, represented by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), played a leading role at the prestigious World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-25) held in Baku, Azerbaijan by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
The kingdom’s delegation, comprising key experts and specialists, actively participated in the global event, which drew attendees from ITU member states across the world.
As an elected member of the ITU Council and an active participant in the union’s work, Bahrain highlighted its significant strides in digital transformation, regulatory modernisation, and rolling out high-quality connectivity access.
The delegation contributed to key discussions, working groups, and committees focused on future sector development policies, underscoring Bahrain’s commitment to accelerating progress and enhancing global digital inclusion.
Further emphasising its diplomatic and technical engagement, the kingdom hosted a high-profile reception on the sidelines of the conference. The event was attended by senior international officials, organisers, diplomats and leaders from the telecommunications community.

Ms Jumaan
During the reception, TRA chairperson Mariam Jumaan reiterated Bahrain’s firm support for Adel Darwish and his candidacy for the crucial position of ITU deputy secretary-general for the 2027-2030 term. Ms Jumaan highlighted Mr Darwish’s experience, leadership, and clear vision for enhancing the Union’s global impact.
Currently serving as director of the ITU’s Regional Office for the Arab States, Mr Darwish has an extensive professional background in digital policy and telecommunications regulation.
Bahrain affirmed its continued dedication to working with the ITU and all member states to champion sustainable, inclusive and innovative digital development, aimed at securing a better digital future for everyone.
