A report documenting Iranian crimes and violations in Bahrain since the start of the ongoing war has been compiled and released by a local rights body.
Bahrain Human Rights Watch Society (BHRWS) secretary general Faisal Fulad presented the report to Alaa Shalaby, president of the Arab Organisation for Human Rights based in Cairo.
“Several residential areas, particularly Sitra, were subjected to drone attacks that resulted in injuries among civilians, including children, and damage to homes and private property,” said Mr Fulad.
“These incidents raise serious concerns regarding the protection of civilians and respect for the rules of international humanitarian law.
“Through this report, the BHRWS seeks to provide professional and objective documentation of these events based on field information and visits conducted by the society’s monitoring team to hospitals and temporary shelters.”
Mr Fulad said the report also reflects the efforts undertaken by the official authorities in responding to the humanitarian situation, including providing medical care for the injured, securing shelters for affected families, and implementing the measures necessary to protect citizens and residents and maintain security and stability.
“The BHRWS emphasises the importance of international legal accountability for any violations affecting civilians or civilian objects, as well as the need to strengthen international efforts to prevent attacks against residential areas and ensure protection for populations during armed conflicts,” added Mr Fulad.
The report comprising official statements, media reports and field visits will also be submitted to the United Nations Human Rights Council.
It recommends conducting independent investigations to determine the circumstances of the attacks, supporting victims and affected individuals and strengthening international efforts to prevent attacks on civilians.
