GOLF – Balbir Singh, Sanjeev Bhalla, and Abdulrahman Abdulwahed Al Shaikh won the Black Knights blackball competition at Awali Golf Club (AGC).
The event, sponsored since 2013 by the Black Knights, featured teams of three, each of whom were given a black golf ball – with the score made playing the black ball counting for the team’s score.
Two team prizes and three prizes per division were up for the taking.
Singh, Bhalla, and Al Shaikh emerged overall winners with 38 points, beating out the trio of Hamad Salem Al Aathem, Hussain Salem, and Abddulrahim Fakhroo, who finished as runners-up with 35 points.
Lee McIlear won division one on countback with 37 points with a great round of gross 71.
In second place was Isa Abdulla Al Qutami with 37 points, while third was Al Shaikh with 35 points.
James Williamson won division two, also on countback, with 38 points.
Singh finished second with 38 points, while Salah Musbah Al Kaabi came third with 35 points.
In division three, Zuzar Madarwala was the winner with the best score of the day of 40 points.
Runner-up with a better 37 points was Gerard van Gerwen, who nearly hit a hole in one.
The ball rolled to the cup, hit the pin, got knocked back, and rested an inch in front of the hole.
Paul McLean was third with 37 points.
Following play, the winners were awarded their respective prizes by AGC captain Steve Newall and tournament director Singh.
