A Jordanian court in western Amman has sentenced two felons suffering from cancer to memorise the Quran as an alternative punishment.
One man was convicted of resisting arrest, while the other was involved in a traffic-related offence. Both were sent to a Quran memorisation centre, where they are required to spend five hours daily learning different chapters of the holy book, for a total of 48 hours.
The court granted this exception in light of the convicts’ health conditions.
