A proposal has been put forward to extend the Muharraq Nights festival following its remarkable success.
Strategic Thinking Bloc spokesman MP Khalid Bu Onk, who is spearheading the initiative supported by several MPs, said the event has ‘captured the authentic spirit of Muharraq and showcased a highly successful model for community-based initiatives that seamlessly blend heritage, tourism, and economic activity’.
“The strong public turnout reflects a clear demand for high-quality cultural and heritage experiences,” Mr Bu Onk noted, adding that the festival’s popularity justifies extending it beyond its current December 30 end date – now only days away.
He emphasised that an extension would enable more residents and visitors to enjoy the event while further supporting local businesses and artisans.
The MPs also proposed launching Muharraq Nights and Hawa Al Manama simultaneously next year.
“This approach would help distribute tourist movement, reduce congestion, and achieve balanced visitor flows between the two historic cities,” he explained.
Such co-ordination, he added, would enhance the overall tourism experience and strengthen Bahrain’s cultural appeal.
