A student of determination has successfully transitioned from the autism support class to a mainstream classroom at Buri Primary Boys’ School, marking the third full inclusion case at the school this academic year.
The student, Yusuf Mahdi, met the required academic and behavioural readiness criteria, thanks to the intensive programmes provided by the school.
Yusuf’s teacher, Ayman Haroon, explained that the student followed a comprehensive education plan focused on developing academic skills and strengthening self-confidence, using applied behaviour analysis strategies and interactive activities.
He noted that Yusuf has shown significant progress in reading skills, demonstrated by his participation in the Arab Reading Challenge competition in the category of students of determination.
Mr Haroon also praised class teacher Abdulaziz Al Bahar for his efforts in ensuring Yusuf’s successful inclusion in the regular class.
The Education Ministry stated that this achievement is part of a programme that aims to help integrate students of determination into government schools.
Autism can affect school performance by creating challenges in social skills, communication, executive functioning, and sensory processing.
These difficulties may lead to problems with classroom tasks, peer interaction, and occasionally disruptive behaviours.
However, many autistic students succeed when provided with appropriate support, including visual aids and individualised education plans.
