The motion by five MPs, led by Hanan Fardan, was approved during yesterday’s session and referred to the Cabinet for review.
The proposal urges the government to conduct an immediate assessment of endowments facing ambiguity in their legal status, identify administrative and regulatory shortcomings, and develop clear mechanisms to protect their religious, social and charitable purposes.
Ms Fardan said the initiative was driven by growing community concern that some historical endowments were being treated as state property due to the absence of clear recognition procedures.
“Endowments are not ordinary assets,” she said. “They carry religious and social responsibilities, and any ambiguity surrounding their status opens the door to decisions that may undermine the very purpose for which they were created.”
MPs are calling for the development of transparent criteria and mechanisms to verify endowment status, protect assets from improper disposal, and ensure that their revenues continue to serve their legitimate social objectives.
