Nestlé has issued a voluntary recall for several of its infant formula products in eight Middle Eastern and North African countries, including Bahrain, after detecting the potential presence of toxins.
The affected product lines include NAN SUPREMEPRO, NAN OPTIPRO, S-26 GOLD, and S-26 ULTIMA.
According to a press release from Nestlé, the products may be contaminated with cereulide, a toxin produced by the Bacillus cereus bacteria. Exposure to cereulide can cause symptoms such as nausea, abdominal pain, and frequent vomiting.
The company clarified that the recall is a precautionary measure and confirmed that no illnesses related to the contamination have been reported to date.
Relevant distributors and retailers holding the identified batches have been notified and instructed to immediately block and remove the affected quantities from store shelves.
The other seven Mena countries are Egypt, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
