A new electronic service has been launched to enable Bahraini citizens residing abroad to replace their passports through Bahrain’s embassies and consulates, the Interior Ministry announced.
Citizens living overseas can use the National eGovernment Portal, Bahrain.bh, to apply for and receive their new passports, while old ones are cancelled.
The new passports can be collected via Bahrain’s embassies or consulates, according to Interior Ministry Under-Secretary for Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs (NPRA) Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa.
Shaikh Hisham stated that the streamlined application ‘saves time, effort and cost’, as all transactions are processed directly through diplomatic missions, without the need to visit service centres in Bahrain.
It will significantly speed up the process of issuing a new passport, with processing taking no more than seven working days, according to the under-secretary.
Citizens will also no longer be required to send their old passport back for cancellation. An agreement has been made with DHL Express to provide secure, reliable delivery of passports and documents to citizens worldwide.
The service, exclusively for citizens abroad, was developed in co-operation with the Foreign Ministry, in a step towards further digital transformation.
